So Cal Limos Perth

So Cal Limos have some of the best selection of limos and classic cars available to hire for your wedding day in Perth.

Paul Winzar Photography often find ourselves at the same weddings as So Cal Limos and we really enjoy the professionalism of this company and how beautifully their cars are presented at the weddings they attend. The photographs we take of these cars are stunning and this can be partly attributed to to the care and consideration Pierce and his team place on presenting their vehicles.

We asked Perth City Limos a few questions

Do you have a favourite photo that Paul Winzar have taken?

There are so many! You take some really great photographs and we have several favourites. We particularly like the shot of the couple in the Rolls Royce at the winery. It gives a feeling of romance and a film like ambience. We also like the shots taken in Kings Street with our Bentley which give a luxury urban feeling.

Do you have any favourite locations?

We particularly like Kings Park. It is one of the most popular spots that our customers like to go in Perth. We also like the Swan Valley which has a great diverse range of things to do and see. We regularly have Swan Valley Limo tours and weddings within this region.

What do you like about working with Paul Winzar Photography?

It is great to work with someone who is very talented at what they do. You are very good at knowing the important shots to take. Many of our chauffeurs have commented about how well you are able to interpret the scene and position the cars for the best possible picture.

Wills Domain Wedding Katherine & Adam

Katherine and Adam decided to hold their wedding at the beautiful Wills Domain located in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. The ceremony was held inside the Art gallery at Wills Domain, this gave a bit more shade from the summer’s sun. Katherine looked stunning being walked down the aisle by her father and accompanied by her 3 beautiful bridesmaids; I think Adam couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw his beautiful bride walking towards him.

After the ceremony we did some of the formal shots at Wills domain before heading down to the coast near Yallingup to do some more bridal party photos, while down on the beach we were hoping for a spectacular sunset but unfortunately it was not putting on a show for their wedding day. Never less we got some amazing shots with the limited time we had on the coast as we needed to be back at the reception. At the reception a night of fun was had by the guests who enjoyed an amazing 3 coarse meal then followed by the usual dancing and festivities along with the comical photo-booth.

Caversham House, Kevin & Sony

Kevin and Sony were married at the beautiful hidden gardens at Caversham house. although same sex marriage in not legally recognised in Australia, all that witnessed the ceremony in their eyes believe they saw a marriage of two people who are in love. The reception was held at Joondalup resort later that day. Kevin proposed to Sony during dinner in the Swan Valley, Sony decided to play difficult and actually turned Kevin down. Several proposals later Sony finally accepted Kevin’s proposal while washing dishes at home.

They hosted their engagement party in October of 2011 while Kevin’s grandmother was over from England. Kevin and Sony met in March 2009 through mutual friends at a themed party at The Court Hotel in Northbridge.  They started dating in September of that year and moved into their first house together in 2010 after living with a good friend for some time.

Kevin and Sony have travelled to many iconic places within Australia but their favorite trip away is down to Margaret River visiting the wineries and beaches.  Their favorite past times include camping, movies and dining out.

Kevin and Sony’s tips in planning your wedding day are to never have just one plan in place. Know what your budget is and look at getting major purchases, where the price can vary, paid first such as flights and accommodation for the honeymoon. When choosing your wedding party make sure they support the wedding and can provide the level of commitment to the wedding you require. Have fun

With the recent legalisation of same sex marriage in various countries and being a hot topic of debate in Australia I’m sure that it will not be too long before all couples are allowed to […]

Winter Wedding at Sandalford Winery

Adele and Clinton’s wedding day started with clear skies but that was not to last as a severe weather warning had been issued for the day. Soon after arriving at the bride’s mother’s home to capture the bride in preparation for her ceremony, the skies opened up with rain. Adele was not too concerned with the rain as her ceremony was being held indoors at Christ Church in Claremont. Clinton was amazed watching the Stunning Adele Walk down the aisle in her strapless wedding Gown supplied by Hobnob Bridal. After the ceremony some family photo were taken outside of the church before the rain decided to return so we quickly headed to the Sandalford Winery in the Swan Valley were the couple were having their reception. Upon arriving at Sandalford Winery we were greeted with heavy rain also having a hiccup with one of the limos getting bogged at the winery. Despite these small delays with rain including the Limo drama, things ran a little smoother if you could call more rain smoother; despite all the terrible weather and mishaps the photos from Adele’s and Clinton’s wedding really were so impressive that Adele told me after viewing the images that she was glad it had rained on her wedding day. This wedding is a great example of the photos that can be achieved if rain happens to fall on your day. They say it’s lucky to have rain on your wedding day, after all that rain Adele and Clinton must be the luckiest couple.

Old Swan Brewery Wedding Monique & Ben

Monique and Ben meet at a mine site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. After a few months of getting to know each other, Monique asked Ben to meet her for a drink, and the rest is history. With the blessing of Monique’s parents, Ben popped the question at the couple’s home in Karratha.

The pair wed on Valentine’s Day at the Old Swan brewery in front of 80 guests. Monique look elegant is a strapless A-line ivory gown from Pearls bridal, with delicate beading and a lace –up back. The bridal gown beautifully echoed the classic silver and white décor of the reception, also held at the Old Swan Brewery, with just a hint of colour provided by the gorgeous floral arrangements. DA Doo Ron Ron entertainment kept the guests enthused throughout the night with a DJ and photo booth fun.

The location of the Old Swan Brewery allowed for some fun and interesting photo opportunities with a full moon rising over the river made the photos a little more special. For the honeymoon, Monique and Ben spent ten days relaxing in Mauritius, enjoying sight-seeing, great food and stunning beaches. The happy couples tip for your wedding is “keep it simple and do it well. This will allow you time to enjoy your day”

Caversham House Wedding Kadie and David

Dave proposed to Kadie while the couple were enjoying a picnic together at Kings Park to celebrate their 3 year anniversary. When it came time to make it official the gardens at Caversham house in the Swan Valley provided the perfect place to hold their wedding ceremony.

Although the wedding day was a hot 42 degrees with bushfires nearby this didn’t hamper the photography that was captured.  Kadie wore a one of a kind Secrettopia gown, made with satin and an exquisitely details lace overlay a jewelled belt positioned beneath her bust delivered the finishing touch to her bridal look. Her bridesmaid dresses were pastel pink in colour, which complemented her bouquet made up of soft peach hues with a pop of green hydrangeas.

Dave chose a blue/grey suit with a cream coloured waistcoat and a matching tie.  The reception was also held at Caversham house inside its Marquee reception room. The space provided a spectacular back drop the photographs, as well as plenty of room for their quests to party and dance the night away. Gorgeous floral centre pieces accentuated the venue’s garden setting as did the three-tier white chocolate mud cake, which featured pastel pink flowers that cascaded down each tier. Overall highlight of the day for Kadie and David was taking a moment together to reflect on their marriage and the beautiful surroundings. Kadie recommends “sitting back and enjoying the day, Remember at some point to have a moment with your husband to take it all in”.

St Mary’s Cathedral wedding Angela and Paul

Angela and Paul’s ceremony was held at the beautiful St Mary’s Cathedral; this is one of the most amazing churches in Perth and is always a favourite place for a church wedding. Afterwards the wedding photos were taken in the grounds of UWA. The reception was held at the UWA club with around 140 guests attending.

The Proposal

Paul proposed on the 31st of August 2013, the last day of winter.  We went to have a “look” at engagement rings expecting it to be difficult to choose one and expecting a wait from order to collection; to our surprise it all fell into place the same day.

History

Our dogs Christian and Jessie brought us together.  We started taking our respective dogs for walks to the park and ended up talking for hours and hours.  Eventually we fell in love.  One day Paul suggested our dogs would be better off if they were together during the day while we are at work… Essentially he stole my dog and we had to move in together after that.

Tips and advice

I used a spreadsheet to stay organised.  I had a sheet for the guest list, one for the reception, appointments, supplier information and a to do list.  It evolved as I went along.  When I needed to send information out I just sent the sheet required rather than the whole document.

Take care of yourself.  Accept help when it is offered to you.  Relax and enjoy the quality time you get to spend with your friends and family for the occasion.  Have fun!

Wedding Photographer: What Happens on the Wedding Day

Planning the day of your wedding and knowing what to do with timings, so that the wedding photographer can deliver beautiful wedding photos, can be a difficult task for the uninitiated. This guide will try to make that a little easier for the bride and groom in their planning for the wedding day. in order to receive the best from your photographer, time needs to be spent beforehand in getting this right so that your wedding photos are not too rushed on your special event. Photos of the bride preparing as well as the groom, ceremony photos and family group photos after the wedding ceremony, along with formal and reception photos need to be considered.

Bride photos I like to spend between 1.5 – 2 hours with the bride and bridesmaids. This is important as this can be a very busy time before the ceremony. More time will give more creative and relaxed images. Family photos can also be done in this time before the ceremony.

Consider booking a hotel room to get ready in, that have a nice sized room to allow for the photographer and bridesmaids and guest to move around freely. An uncluttered space is important also especially if you’re deciding to prepare at home. Large windows create great lighting in photos so a room that has one is optimal.

Grooms men should be dressed in their pants and shirts when the photographer arrives so that the photographers time is utilized efficiently. Groom photos are done normally before the brides.

A list of family photos will help after the wedding ceremony. Allow at least 30 to 45 minutes for family images as this can take up a bit of time.

Also you need to allow for […]

Choosing the Best Colours for Your Wedding

Choosing the Best Colours for Your Wedding

Planning your wedding is likely to be one of the most exciting, yet stressful, things you will ever do. Chances are you have been planning for this day since you were a little girl. The colour scheme for your wedding is one of the most important aspects of planning your wedding, yet can be the most difficult due to the variety of options. Here are some tips to help you choose a colour scheme for your wedding and how to incorporate those colours into your wedding plans.

How Many Colours to Choose

Many wedding planners suggest that brides select a colour scheme for their wedding that consists of three different colours. The first colour is the dominant colour that should be prominently displayed throughout the wedding. The second colour works as a supportive colour to help compliment the dominant colour. Finally, an accent colour should be selected and only used sporadically throughout the wedding decorations. To get a good look at what colour options are available, head out to a local paint store and look at some of their sample colour cards, or leaf through some bridal magazines.

Things to Consider

Here is a look at several things you should take into consideration before making your final colour choice for your wedding.

•Venue. When choosing the colours for your wedding it is imperative that you consider where the ceremony and/or reception will be held. Take into consideration the colour of the walls, carpet, décor and curtains at these venues. There is nothing you can do to change the colours at the venue, so you must be sure that the colours you use will blend in nicely with whatever is already there.

•Season. You may […]

10 tips for the perfect wedding reception

Planning a wedding reception is fun and exciting, but it takes a lot of preplanning and preparation. If you are planning a wedding in Perth or its surrounding areas, you have selected a beautiful destination, with many wedding reception options available. There are several things you can do right from the beginning to ensure your wedding reception is perfect. Here is a list of the top ten tips for planning the perfect wedding reception.

1.      Start Planning Early

To plan the perfect wedding reception, you must start planning early. It takes time to make all the necessary arrangements and you do not want to rush through it. You should select a location for your reception at least six months ahead of your wedding date. Otherwise, you may be stuck settling for the only reception venue with space available.

2.      Set a Budget

The perfect wedding does not have to be the most expensive. Set a budget early and check it often. You do not want to run out of money early on in the planning stage, and not have enough funds to get the little extras for your reception.

3.      Know Your Venue

Make sure that you know all the details about the space where you are holding the reception. You want to know the maximum capacity of the room, what staff will be available on your wedding day, when can you start to set up, and what services are included, such as table linen, and table set-up and tear down. Do not assume anything, this way you will know exactly how to plan your reception.

4.      Select a Caterer

Before you start shopping around for caterers, make sure that the venue for your wedding allows outside caterers. If not, you will […]

Choosing the perfect wedding dress

Selecting the Perfect Wedding Dress for your special day may be one of the most important decisions you have to make when planning for your wedding day. You want to find a dress that looks great and matches your personal style. With so many wedding dresses available, finding the perfect one for you can be quite difficult. Here are some tips to help you find the dress of your dreams.

Know Your Wedding Details

You should not start shopping for your wedding dress until you know some of the specifics about your wedding, such as when and where it will take place. Since you may be shopping for your dress months in advance of your wedding day, it is vital that you consider what time of year you will be holding your ceremony. For example, if you are having a summer wedding, you would not want a dress with long sleeves. You also need to consider the location of the wedding when picking a dress. If you are having an outdoor wedding on the beach, a dress with a long train may not work so well.

Set a Budget

It is also important that you set a budget for your wedding dress before you start shopping. Know the price range that you want to stay within, and what the highest price you can afford is. If someone else is purchasing your wedding dress, you will need to work together to set an appropriate budget. Tell the bridal boutique salesperson what your price range is from the beginning. This will avoid the chance of falling in love with a certain wedding dress that is well over your budget.

Find the Perfect Fit

When shopping for a wedding dress, do not pay attention […]

Wedding Reception Venues Perth

Deciding on a Perth wedding reception venue
When organising a wedding one of the first things to consider is choosing a wedding venue for your reception.

Once this is decided on and the date is confirmed it allows you to book celebrants or the church and other suppliers like wedding photographers and a DJ.The size of your wedding party and number of guests you invite will also need to finalise before booking the reception venue. as you may choose a venue that can not cater for your number of guests.

Some Venues have the benefit of allowing the wedding ceremony and reception to be held all in the one location, giving more time to be spent with guests, less commuting time is involved and allowing your wedding photographer to spend more time taken photos without the need to travel to separate locations for photography. You need to take into account what you require for your reception venue and ceremony needs. If you are religious you will most likely want to hold your ceremony at a church or other religious locations in Perth. You have to also weigh up how close the ceremony is to the reception venue as this may be a contributing factor in your final decision.

Parks are probably the most common choice for a Perth wedding ceremony today. Choosing this type for your wedding you are presented with endless options to decide over. However you should have a backup plan should bad weather be expected for your day.

Another popular location is a beach wedding considering Perth’s beautiful coastline and weather to match, the sound of the breaking waves in the background can bring sense of peace and serenity to your wedding ceremony. A couple of […]

Choosing the Perfect Wedding Album

Once it was an easy job to choose a photo album from your wedding photographer, now with the numerous Options available, that task has now become more complex. Today’s albums come in many styles from photo books or otherwise known as coffee table books, or the more upmarket flush mount albums and prestige matted albums. Some suppliers of albums in Australia include Jorgensen (located in Perth) and Seldex both companies provide albums of the highest quality to selected photographers and don’t sell direct to the public, so you will need to select a professional photographer if you would like one of their albums.

Styles of Wedding Albums

Photo books are mostly offset printing on a variety of paper stocks. These premium photography books are at the lower end in cost but still offer an excellent product for bride and groom to have an affordable memory from their wedding day to cherish.

Flush mount albums are printed on silver halide photo paper which is superior to offset digital albums. Photos can be printed edge to edge allowing a full page image with no border. Also they are available in a beautiful art paper with a matt finish that absolutely shows off your wedding photos. Available in an endless range of cover options these wedding photography albums are one of my favourites in style and presentation.

Matted albums where once the only style of wedding albums that most photographers offered to their clients. They still are popular but now offer a range of modern matts styles to keep up with today’s trends in wedding Album design. Matted albums are at the higher end of the market due to the extra cost of making the matts but are a great way of showing off your […]

What’s in my Camera Bag: Wedding Photography Equipment

What’s in my camera bag? all about lenses & photography equipment

Many times people ask me how I achieve the images I take during a wedding and how I create that sense of dream like feeling  in the pictures that the bride and groom receive from their day.

Lens choice is an important factor in how a photo will feel and creating a great feeling of depth, a lens having a wide aperture of between F1.2 to f2.8 is the range I normally use to capture my creative shots during a wedding.

While 2.8 is a great setting to use I really like to shoot at 1.2 or 1.4 the dreaminess that is achieved at these apertures is just totally amazing.

What lenses I use are the following

Canon 35 mm 1.4 L

Canon 50 mm 1.2L

Canon 85 mm 1.2 L

Canon 100 mm 2.8 L

Canon 16 – 35 mm 2.8 II L

Canon 70 – 200 mm 2.8 is II L

Let’s start with the 35 mm 1.4 this is one of my most used lenses to capture a wedding. It is good for loosely framed portraits and wider group photos. I could not live without this in my camera bag. I could easily photograph a whole wedding with just this one lens.

Canons 50mm 1.2L  50mm lenses are know as a standard  lens and every photographer should have one in their camera bag. they give a simular field of view as what the human eye sees. this lens is weather sealed and also lets in a amazing amount of light for darker and wet conditions.

The 85 mm 1.2 is another favourite and combined with the 35 mm 1.4 is a brilliant combination; I have literally photographed whole weddings with these two lenses. Having […]

Wedding cars Perth

Wedding cars what is best for you
So when it comes to getting your bridal party to the ceremony and reception what will you need for your transport, what is right for you. Firstly you will need to consider the number in your bridal party will you require two bridal cars or maybe more. Also what style is suitable for your wedding experience that will fit in with your taste. When it comes to choosing a car or limousine for your day numerous companies are available in Perth who provide exceptional service for your wedding requirements.

Stretch limousines like the Ford LTD are the first thing people think of today as a limousine or bridal car. But today’s wedding cars are far more extravagant in styles to choose from. The Chrysler 300 c limousines are very popular today giving that Las Vegas feel to the entrance of the bride.

Classic wedding cars create a sense of opulence to your wedding; you will feel the excitement, people will stop and stare while being driven around on your wedding day in one of these timeless classics from the past. These cars not only look good but are also wonderful in your wedding photos. Cars like the beautiful Jaguar MK 5 convertible will surely see you arrive in style at your wedding. The beautiful Rolls Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley MK 6 offerings are other classic wedding cars to consider along with Daimler and Cadillac.

Hummer Limousines this style of wedding car is great to cater for large parties. They can fit most bridal parties in without the need for separate cars. These limos are fitted out with latest modern entertainment options and create a real party atmosphere. You will indeed stand out with this unique type of […]

Unique Wedding Reception & Wedding Ideas

This is a wedding I did a while ago at chandeliers on abbey, which is located at Yallingup in the south west of Western Australia. The 220 Guests upon entering the reception found their table by means of two French doors that had names written on the glass panels with fruit signifying what table they sat on.  The table styling and layout was truly unique all the tables were adorned with a fruit bowl filled with a type of fruit that corresponded with the doors. Fun was had by all who danced enthusiastically to the band that was flown in from Sydney for the wedding. I felt like putting down my camera at times to join in the dancing as this was one of the most fun and enjoyable receptions I have witnessed. Guests were still partying when I left at around 12.45 am.

Things to Consider When Choosing a Perth Wedding Photographer

The sometimes arduous task of searching for a photographer for your wedding is something that should not be taking lightly. With so many photographers in Perth Western Australia to choose from, makes that job even harder.

How willing is the bride and groom to hand over hard-earned money to somebody that they may only have met for half an hour or so, to be trusted with their wedding photos. (more…)

Locations for Wedding Photography Perth

Perth is blessed with having beautiful natural scenery, this is beneficial when it comes to choosing a location for your wedding. Most wedding photographers in Perth have knowledge of great spots or ideas when it comes to the day. However most of the top photographers can bring out the best in any location. You may know of some locations that are special to you, these locations you should discuss with your photographer about the suitability, things that need to be considered are the fact of how close is it to your ceremony and reception. Some of the more popular location ideas are listed below.
Wedding Photography Perth – Locations
Kings Park has many locations suitable for photography from natural bush to manicured gardens and beautiful views of the Perth city skyline and river. This is a very popular park and you are required to make booking to have your photos here. Please follow the link to arrange a booking

Kings park wedding photography booking

Swan Valley is another very popular location for wedding photography this area is abundant with wineries. Vineyards look and create great backdrops in photos and really start to shine in the autumn months when the vines start to turn yellow. There are also plenty of fields in the swan valley that have some wonderful flowers during spring time.

Perth Beaches Perth’s entire coastline is lucky enough to have some of the best beaches in Western Australia. Wedding photography on the beach is great but it does get windy at times so you need to consider this. Finding a sheltered location among rocky out crops not only helps to protect you from the wind but also adds a little more interest in your images.

Fremantle has many historic architectural buildings and interesting laneways that make good backdrops. Down by the […]

how many hours do i need / wedding photography

How Many Hours Do You Need a Photographer to be at my wedding?

Most photographers have some short of wedding package that is based on the hours of photography. Many wedding photographers do this as it allows people who only need the ceremony, bridal and group photos afterwards. Things you need to consider so you can estimate how much time you would like. The most popular packages I find are 8 to 12 hours photography as this gives you more moments to capture the fine details of your wedding.

Pre wedding photos of the bride and bridesmaids getting ready for the wedding, I normally like to spend around one and a half hours with the bride and bridesmaids as to capture all the details beforehand. This also allows you to be not too rushed before the ceremony. Also some family photos can be taken at this time. Photos of jewellery and items the bride is wearing are nice touches to photograph and make beautiful details in the wedding album.

Grooms and groomsmen photos do not take as long as the bride’s preparation so these can be done before going to the bride’s house or a second photographer can be sent to capture the guys.

Traveling times need to be taken into account for the journey to the ceremony location and going to photography locations during the day.

Most ceremonies take around 15 to 30 minutes these days, photos of the congratulations afterwards and while people are mingling with the bride and groom can be up to 30 minutes.

Group and family photos can take a while as rounding up people can be sometimes consuming, you may need to leave half an hour for these or more if you have a […]

How to Preserve Your Wedding Photos

What happens after your wedding day and how to preserve your wedding photos?

Your wedding day is over the excitement and emotions of the ceremony and reception has passed, the many months spent organising your event has been well worth the effort.

All that is left is to do is await your photos from your wedding photographer. Many brides and grooms do not pay enough attention into how their wedding photos will be displayed or preserved.

The importance of having your wedding photos either printed or made into a wedding Album is something that should be of the highest priority after the event. Let’s consider the fact, that most wedding photographers in Perth now give a disc with a wedding photography package.

Today technology and digital media is great but consider how many images will last into the future, I personally love seeing photos from 100 years ago being able to hold and see a piece of history; a window into the past.

To ensure that your photos last for many years to come, care should be taken with them. Apart from having a wedding album, other ways to present your images are listed below.

Giving that the disc you receive from your photographer are on digital media, you want to make sure you at least make backup copies on as many hard drives and computers as possible. Digital media can fail over time, so the last thing you would want is to lose all your wedding photos.

Make an effort in getting as many photos printed, you don’t need to print them all only get the ones you really like done; they can be stored in a nice solander box to help preserve them. A solander box is used by conservators for […]
